I have been eating LCHF and writing this blog since last October. That's 5 months of swapping coffee for green tea, and emotional eating for exercise! As well as removing all sugar and gluten from my diet, and increasing the fat, protein and vegetables I eat everyday.
But if I am brutally honest I haven't really seen the results I am after. Especially in relation to my waist line.
Yes I have quit smoking. Yes I have gone travelling. Yes I am the first to admit I have fallen off the wagon... more than a couple of times; and yes I have been concentrating more on my digestive health this month than my weight. But I am part of Generation Y which means I want results NOW!
And for all of my trying... and believe me, this whole experience has been VERY trying! I am still so very far away from my goal.
That was until I went back to the gym...
That's me and my gym buddy Ash - MONTH 1.
About 1 month ago now I started back at the gym, thanks to the encouragement of my beautiful friend Ash (pictured above).
Honestly that girl is my rock. My motivation. The reason I get out of bed at 5.30 in the morning - Because I know she will be there waiting for me at the gym and PISSED if I don't show.
We even came up with this awesome program (pictured left) so we can train together most days!
I cant stress enough how important training with a mate or even a group of mates is. They motivate you, encourage you and support you along a very hard journey. Without Ash I would have given up week 1!
Now I know that everyone says 70% of weight loss is done in the kitchen. And I totally agree. However walking for me just doesn't cut it. I need to really SWEAT to release the kilograms. And while I hate getting up in the wee hours of the morning, I actually don't hate exercising.
Don't get me wrong, I am far off being one of those 'feel the burn' loving masochists who lives to train, but I do get a real high from my morning SPIN or TBW's. However it took a good few weeks to get me to that state.
So if you HATE to work out. Like I know use to! Then boy do I have a treat for you. Just watch the Vimeo clip below and be prepared to be amazed.
Yep that's it! Just 3 minutes, a couple of times a week of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and you're well on your way to a slimmer trimmer figure and an increased fitness level. Sounds too good to be true doesn't it?
Well I have been training this way for the past month. Incorporating a combination of 15 minute HIIT sessions on the elliptical machine, rower, bike and treadmill, along with heavy weight sessions and two of my favourite Les Mills classes 3 times a week - RPM and TBW (Total body workout).
In the first week alone I dropped nearly 4 kilos in water weight and shrunk my bloated belly!
Pre Gym Body
Weight - Just under 100 kgs
Dress size - pushing a size 18 (biggest I have been in 6 years!)
Waist - 97cm
Hips - 130cm
Arms - 36cm
Thighs - 78cm
Just 1 month later
Weight - 92 kgs
Dress size - 14 in dresses, skirts and tops to a size 16 in pants
Waist - 87cm
Hips - 120cm
Arms - 35cm
Thighs - 69cm
That is a difference of...
Weight - Nearly 8kgs!
Dress size - Close to 2 whole dress sizes!
Waist - minus 10 cm
Hips - minus 10 cm
Arms - minus 2 cm
Thighs - minus 9 cm
As you can see from my picture, I still have quite a long way to go before I reach my goals. But a loss of over 30 cms across my body is a BIG win in my book! No wonder my jeans are just about to fall off me right now. Think it might be almost time for a new pair! haha #winning
